Q: What is WASWUG?

A: Washington State WSIPC User Group (WASWUG) is a conference that provides the opportunity for district users to learn more about the Skyward product suite and other topics important to managing and reporting data. You will be able to share insights and network with fellow Skyward users. There are over 175 breakout sessions offered within the Student, HR & Fiscal Modules. The sessions are taught by knowledge WSIPC staff and Power End Users.

Q: Why do we meet in Bellevue every year?

A: There are very few locations in Washington that have sufficient meeting and sleeping rooms to accommodate an event of this size and scope. As such, it is necessary to reserve the space (in the form of contracts) three to five years in advance of each conference. These contracts ensure we have a venue for the conference, and require set minimum expenditures for hotel sleeping room and food costs. Changes to the conference structure (e.g., number of days) or scope (e.g., meals, major program changes) are limited within the parameters of the existing contract without incurring penalty charges. We now offer WASWUG Fall; which is held in Spokane, WA in October 2016.

Q: Why does the Hyatt Regency Bellevue run out of sleeping rooms so quickly?

A: Because WASWUG is popular! Actually, when securing a contract with a venue we are only able to book a certain number of rooms due to the Hotel’s policy on group business. This helps both the Hotel and WSIPC manage the potential risk if rooms are not filled sufficiently. As much as we would all love to be in the same place we have the opportunity to experience more than just the Hyatt. This year we have a large block of rooms at the new Marriott Bellevue; which is just a few blocks from the Hyatt Regency. They have a great gathering space so enjoy the networking!

Q. What if I need to cancel my registration?

A. Refunds will be honored for cancellations received via email, fax, or mail by February 17, 2017. A $75 cancellation fee will be assessed for all cancellations received prior to February 17, 2017. Substitutions will be accepted through the first day of the conference. No refunds offered after February 17, 2017. No shows will be charged the full registration amount. Contact the Registrar with questions.

Q: Wouldn’t boxed lunches or buffets be less expensive than the fancy banquet meals we receive?

A: Surprisingly, the answer to this question is “no.” Buffets actually cost more than plated meals and result in more food waste. Boxed lunches are not less expensive than plated meals and are not recommended when holding an environmentally friendly event. We do occasionally offer buffet or boxed meals due to scheduling or spacing needs.

Q: In recent years, I have not always received handouts at the breakout sessions. Why is that?

A: There is a significant cost to producing session handouts and we find that many get left behind. We make the handouts available via the conference app (WASWUG Connect). Q: What are we eating?

A: We post a “meals” page that lists out the menus being served. This is available 2 months prior to the conference.
